Review: The Dragon's Promise
Soooooooo, why are September reads this year so inherently disappointing? Like for real, only one book I've read so far that's newly released. Henceforth, I have read like 3 newly released books, 2 of them really just disappointed the shit out of me. I feel cheated, bamboozled.
Princess Shiori made a deathbed promise to return the dragon's pearl to its rightful owner, but keeping that promise is more dangerous than she ever imagined.
She must journey to the kingdom of dragons, navigate political intrigue among humans and dragons alike, fend off thieves who covet the pearl for themselves and will go to any lengths to get it, all while cultivating the appearance of a perfect princess to dissuade those who would see her burned at the stake for the magic that runs in her blood.
The pearl itself is no ordinary cargo; it thrums with malevolent power, jumping to Shiori's aid one minute, and betraying her the next—threatening to shatter her family and sever the thread of fate that binds her to her true love, Takkan. It will take every ounce of strength Shiori can muster to defend the life and the love she's fought so hard to win.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: I really like the way the story is written, even though I went into it without actually remembering shit from the previous book. But I do enjoy the writing style, it doesn't drag and it doesn't even take much to remember what was happening in the first book because it does recount the events in the book and it's easy enough to follow what is happening. Thank goodness I didn't have to go to the first book once again to know what was happening, that was a huge blessing in disguise.
2. Character Development: So, again, disappointed with the amount of character development in the book. It's so little it could just fit inside the nails of my pinkie finger. Look, honestly, I was very glad that there was no love triangle, but the character development that I was so keen on watching happen, never happened. The characters literally just stayed the same as they were and by the time that the book had ended, there was nothing different about any of the characters, they'd stayed just the same when I began the book. It's so sad, I wanted to read more of Seryu and more about the Dragon Kingdom or even the Wraith, and none of that shit ended up happening.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 5/10, very eh, very eh. Compared to the first book, this book is just cold water deposited on your expectations.
4. Plot Twists: Plot twists, huh, I'm not really sure I am very satisfied with the plot twists that were happening in the story, and I'm not really sure there were any plot twists. Like, I tried so hard to like this book during the end and it just, man I feel so cheated talking about this book. Because I kid you not, I read Six Crimson Cranes in January and that book was so awesome. Like seriously, I had been in love with that book. And now this book, it just breaks my heart.
5. Plot: Lame, lame, lame, lame, lame, absolutely lame. Like seriously, there were so many of the plot points that could have been worked upon really well but they just turned out to be fricking, lame. Like, the beginning was so well done and so well thought out with the Dragon realm, but then it seemed like it was cut off too quickly. I mean I was so fricking disappointed. On top of that the ending seemed so rushed, like I didn't even realize the book had ended until I was actually reading the acknowledgements and realized 'wait, this isn't a part of the book'. I am hella unsatisfied with the plot bruh.
