Review: The Ballad of Never After
Not gonna lie, the fact that literally almost no one cared to go through my review of Once Upon A Broken Heart like seriously, y'all actually cannot go through this review without knowing what happened to its prequel yeah? bunch of clusterfucks is what I'd like to call you guys right now.
But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again. Only this time, the rules have changed. Jacks isn’t the only force Evangeline needs to be wary of. In fact, he might be the only one she can trust, despite her desire to despise him.
Instead of a love spell wreaking havoc on Evangeline’s life, a murderous spell has been cast. To break it, Evangeline and Jacks will have to do battle with old friends, new foes, and a magic that plays with heads and hearts. Evangeline has always trusted her heart, but this time she’s not sure she can. . . .

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: I really like Stephanie Garber's writing, especially since she does the worldbuilding and foreshadowing really well. I mean, the writing style is also pretty flowy and you can get through it pretty quickly, but I think the main focus is the foreshadowing. And I think good foreshadowing can even surpass a good plot twist. Because you see those little clues hidden throughout the story and together they just make that one big picture which makes you simply go like 'OKAY, DAMN.'. And that's what I really like.
2. Character Development: I guess the characters have taken a real change from the last time I read the prequel.
Evangeline: thank fuck that she isn't as dumb as she was in the first book. Thank fuck, because I was literally dreading when she appeared. I thought she'd make just as dumb decisions as she did when it was the first book, but surprisingly she didn't. She actually made decisions that would benefit her in the end. And also that she was taking care of everything much more tactically than I expected. And I guess that can be counted as development on her part.
Jacks: now this guy. I was rooting for this guy, you know. I loved this guy so much because he was flirty, quirky, and fucking epitome of morally grey. He claims he doesn't care about her and then spouts shit like "I will not let you die" like I am supposed to believe that he doesn't care about her? Come on Jacks, you gotta do better than that. Also him crying when Evangeline almost died? Top notch. It's almost cruel how he just pushes Evangeline away. It's really sad in my opinion.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 9/10. Like damn.
4. Plot Twists: WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. WHY DID JACKS HAVE TO DO THAT? WHYY? Like seriously, my heart was fucking broken when I read the second ending. Like the fuck did Stephanie Garber have to pull that for? It literally broke my heart into several little pieces. Also about the first ending. Stephanie Garber literally pulled off a sike bitch. Like seriously, that first ending was the biggest SIKE BITCH I have ever seen in fiction. Like in the entirety of fiction. Ugh, I hope Stephanie Garber is sitting right now, writing a sequel to this or else I will riot.
5. Plot: The plot, even with the good flow, doesn't actually take place until a good half tends to happen throughout the story. And the dynamics don't really pick up until the like 75% of the book which is pretty much of a bum in the story. I think the beginning was worked too hard to stretch out and then it just went on correctly by the time 50% was over. The plot's still pretty good, just, lacks a bit.
