Review: Verity

If I am going to be honest, I knew I was going to be emotionally scarred after reading this book. I didn't know it was going to be THAT bad. Like the eff? I did NOT expect that.

Verity written by Colleen Hoover is the story of Lowen, a struggling author in Manhattan when she comes across a rare offer. Verity Crawford, a famous suspense writer, has met with an accident with conditions unfit for her to continue writing. Her husband, Jeremy gives her the opportunity of a lifetime, finish the remainder of the books as Verity's co-author. But while searching through Verity's notes for the book, Lowen comes across her autobiography- containing things that could change her life forever.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.9/5. I held back the four star solely because it creeped the f out of me and goddamn. Why this book gotta do me dirty like that?

PROS:

1. Plotline: Personally, I have always been attracted to the plotlines in psychological thrillers. Though to be honest I'm not completely sure if this classifies as a psychological thriller. But if I am going to be honest I actually liked it. And I am always a sucker for some mysterious vibes.

2. Narration: Usually not a fan of present tense continuation but I do favour a lot of first POV stories. I prefer those to third person narration hands down. It made me experience everything Lowen was going through starting from her crush on Jeremy to her disgust for Verity very valid if I may say so.

3. The plot twist at the end: Let me tell you, I WAS NOT PREPARED for that. Like bro what the fuck. You can't just drop a bomb on me like that and tell me it was all fake unlike how disgusting Verity made it sound. I was seriously not prepared. Banger. Absolute banger.

4. Scares: This book wasn't horror. I made sure I looked through goodreads and every other goddamn site I could find about the book. It wasn't even supposed to be remotely scary. And yet, AND YET lemme be dramatic I was scared shitless. Like what in the world just happened?

CONS:

1. Lack of appropriate trigger tags: I think this book should have come with trigger tags because there are quite a few that need to be added. I will not lie when I said I felt like puking and was ABSOLUTELY TRIGGERED the fuck out of me. I think it should have been there so that I could have prepared better. Let me tell you, despite my disdain for erotica, it came as a blessing between those triggering moments.

2. I don't know what it was, but there were times when I went I don't want to continue this book anymore. It could be because of the triggering stuff. Or it could be because of the fact that Verity did such disgusting things to her kids. Or maybe it was because that letter nullified it all. I just want to say, it set something off in me and it makes me uncomfortable to no end.

OVERALL, AN OKAY READ, though I would actually advise against it if you're triggered easily or are weak at heart.
