Review: The King of Wrath

Now, I'mma be honest. This book was pretty much an impulse read. Like I was genuinely on the bus home from college and since the journey is like more than an hour long and I'd come across enough reels to want to read it. Also I hate the new Goodreads book page. It looks like shit.

She’s the wife he never wanted…and the weakness he never saw coming.

Ruthless. Meticulous. Arrogant.

Dante Russo thrives on control, both personally and professionally.

The billionaire CEO never planned to marry—
until the threat of blackmail forces him into an engagement with a woman he barely knows.

Vivian Lau, jewelry heiress and daughter of his newest enemy.

It doesn’t matter how beautiful or charming she is. He'll do everything in his power to destroy the evidence and their betrothal.

There’s only one problem: now that he has her...he can't bring himself to let her go.

***
Elegant. Ambitious. Well-mannered.

Vivian Lau is the perfect daughter and her family’s ticket into the highest echelons of high society.

Marrying a blue-blooded Russo means opening doors that would otherwise remain closed to her new-money family.

While the rude, elusive Dante isn't her idea of a dream partner, she agrees to their arranged marriage out of duty.

Craving his touch was never part of the plan.

Neither was the worst thing she could possibly do: fall in love with her future husband.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE  BOOK'S:

1. Writing Quality: One of the biggest thing I really enjoy about Ana Huang's books is how easy they are to read. Like genuinely, most of the times I've read any of Huang's books are when I'm on the train and/or on the bus, mostly out of impulse because Bookstagram reels are borderline tempting. But my point is, while I usually get sick or a headache most of the time when I'm reading because the text is too wordy or the sentences aren't short enough for my travelling mind. But Ana Huang's books literally solved the problem. Literally finished more than half of the book on my travel. It doesn't really drag which is a blessing for my ADHD brain. Imagine forcing your mind to pay attention when it literally cannot for the life of itself. Ugh.

2. Character Development: So, getting down to some good shit.

Vivian: While Vivian is a main character, I feel like I'm only seeing through a haze. Like I know what's happening in her life, and I know what she's doing, it's just that I'm not very clear on what her objectives are?  I think that might result from me reading, but I just feel like her character is very obscure to me. I'd have liked to see more life being breathed into her? I don't know how to explain it.

Dante: DANTE FUCKING RUSSO. ARE YOU AWARE OF HOW LETHAL YOU ARE TO MY HEART?  Like seriously, so lethal. For quite a while I thought he was the Italian mafia or something [I don't fuck with the mafia, this is a joke] but ngl it was fun to see him being a billionaire nonetheless. HE CALLS HER MIA CARA. For a long moment I did read it as cara mia which, I must say is a mistake on my part? Also why I love him so much. The groveling? Like the intense groveling made me cry cause who is gonna grovel for me like that? I ain't getting that I swear. I must be doing something wrong.

Luca: Well, Luca's character isn't really much expanded on considering the entire plot happens because of him. Like seriously, the plot wouldn't exist without him. And the major character change from a spendthrift playboy to a hardworking, understanding person gave me major backlash. Like I do understand why it happens, but I do feel like Luca could have been given some more screentime, especially with Vivian, just to make everything seem a bit more sense. I really feel like it was an opportunity missed out on making a good character.

Kai: The only reason I ever started is Kai fricking Young. Like I came across another bookstagrammer's reel [ @salmaslibrary_ ] (she's a great bookstagrammer, you guys should check her out) and she was ranting about how Kai Young was the perfect boyfriend and I really wanted to read it. Only to find out THE BOOK ISN'T FUCKING RELEASED YET. Also like I had to read this book first before I could go to the other book. Kai rarely appears in the book but when he does, mamma magglione, I totally have the hots for him. Like seriously, the way he's described in the book, he can fulfill my every fantasy and I'll thank him for it.

3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 8/10, like two single sittings and I finished them quite early.

4. Plot: So the plot is completely fine in a sense? Like I don't have any major problems with it. Also, y'all need to read the Twisted series before this because some of the characters mentioned here are from the Twisted series. And some of the events are in line with the series as well. Yeah, so I was saying? The plot's fine but the changes happening there aren't really major and a lot of angles aren't really worked upon so yeah, that's a downer.

OVERALL, A NICE READ, I'm still waiting on the next book. 😭
