Review: Horror Hotel
Y'all I was in such a bad slump for a few days that I didn't feel like reading anything. I wanted to read manga but my favourite site for reading BL manga has been taken down and it has made me so sad because goddamn Mangago has such a bad interface. It just makes me cry.
When the YouTube-famous Ghost Gang—Chrissy, Chase, Emma, and Kiki—visit a haunted LA hotel notorious for tragedy to secretly film after dark, they expect it to be just like their previous paranormal huntings. Spooky enough to attract subscribers—and ultimately harmless.
But when they stumble upon something unexpected in the former room of a gruesome serial killer, they quickly realize that they’re in over their heads.
Sometimes, it’s the dead who need our help—and the living we should fear.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.5/5, THE VIBES KIND OF REMINDED ME OF THE MOVIE FOLLOWED . THEY HAVE THE SAME VIBES.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: The story is being told through the perspectives of four different teenagers: Chrissy, Emma, Chase and Kiki. And it's very fickle, considering they're simply teens and all and that's good. Their dynamic did kind of remind me of the movie Followed, except in the movie they were like following only one person's POV, whereas in the book they followed the POV of four people. Not a fan of the multiple POV change, but it's fine. And I kind of like this book better than the movie. The movie was kind of eh.
2. Character Development: So talking about the characters.
Emma and Kiki: I put the two of them together, not because they're pining for one another throughout the story, but because they're the characters I knew least even though they did have their fair share of narration. I think they were definitely characters that could have been worked upon. They had splendid areas, especially Kiki, since she's a persuasion queen while also having anxiety, to which, totally relate.
Chase: He seemed kind of stereotypical to me. Like rich kid turned nerd because he was tired of his parents having lived the bougie life and harbours a crush on the girl but is scared to tell her because he thinks it would ruin their friendship? I think we've all heard of that trope way too often for liking. And he kind of seems so much like a douche, only talking about their internet fame and channel, like dude, who comes first, the channel or the friends? And the fact that it took Emma to get stabbed for Chase to get Kiki to call the police? Big L.
Chrissy: The fact that her full name is Chrissy Looper doesn't seem right with me because her name already gives maniac vibes. I kind of feel like that Chrissy pities herself a lot. Kind of understandable at a point when no one believes that you're a psychic and all, but please, the self wallow is a bit too much. And I'm literally a person with self wallow as a literal identity inside my headspace. Otherwise her character is quite enjoyable and it was fun to see the ghosts from her POV.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 6/10, nothing much I guess.
4. Plot Twists: Plot twists were surprisingly low for a horror novel I would say. Usually the horror novels I have read [not many of them, I can assure you that] have a good plot twist, if not many. Somehow, this book falls short on the plot twist. I kind of knew Bram was fishy and the fact that it was proven that he was a shady person just didn't make do for me. It felt, like, very anti-climatic in the end for me.
5. Plot: The plot was definitely very interesting to me. And the fact that the book was dedicated to Elisa Lam scared the shit out of me. I mean, if you haven't heard of their story, I strongly recommend looking them up in Google and also the Twitter screenshots based on the story. It's kind of scary not gonna lie and I was scared shitless. Anyways, I kind of felt like that Eileen Warren was a front for Elisa Lam's story but it's nice. But what kind of put me off was how Eileen's story wasn't even looked into when it was the main reason the four ended up in the Hearst Hotel. So it was disappointing when the plot wasn't actually followed through. The point with Linda as well, just not covered enough. Felt like the plot just strayed. Really could have worked better in my sense.
