Review: The Final Girl Support Group

I am a huge fan of horror movies. Do slasher movies come under the category of horror though? Yeah, slasher movies come under this category. I'm not usually into the genre when it comes to books, but when it comes to movies it's by far my most favourite genre to watch.

In horror movies, the final girl is the one who's left standing when the credits roll. The one who fought back, defeated the killer, and avenged her friends. The one who emerges bloodied but victorious. But after the sirens fade and the audience moves on, what happens to her?

Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she's not alone. For more than a decade she's been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette's worst fears are realized--someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece.

But the thing about these final girls is that they have each other now, and no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE  BOOK'S:

1. Writing Quality: I really like the writing style considering it's first POV and it has this gritty and dark and deep atmosphere all around. I don't like the name of the chapters but eh, anyways. The writing style isn't actually very interesting, but it does create some sort of an eerie and deathly vibe which I like a lot.

2. Character Development: I would have provided a bigger analysis over the characters but I guess they would have needed more screentime for me to make a bigger analysis.

Lynette however, she does strike me as quite a different persona. She's paranoid and clearly suffering from undiagnosed PTSD because the symptoms that she shows are clearly of paranoia and PTSD. It's justified however, considering what she has gone through and literally no one else deserves to go through what the other girls have gone over. However, in my opinion, I do feel like Lynette's personality, as enigmatic as it is, seemed kind of incomplete. It did feel like however stubborn that she is and as resilient as she is, I can't seem to draw her full character, its like a faint screen that is shielding me from actually understanding her character.

3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: I think a 7.5/10, not necessarily an 8 but not necessarily a seven either.

4. Plot Twists: Plot twists in a slasher book is always welcome. They're usually predictable at some point but with the adrenaline and thrill that comes with the thought that I might get killed and then the survival instincts kick in, there's usually little space to actually think about it. Maybe that's why I liked this book, it was running so much on adrenaline it made me forget about the easy connect-the-dots and when I was hit with the full force it seemed as a plot twist to me.

5. Plot: Now when I actually came across this book, I found the concept quite interesting. Like bringing all the final survivors together, Nancy from The Nightmare on Elm Street, Rachel from The Ring, Julie from I Know What You Did Last Summer, all coming together for a group therapy like double A, and then someone out to get all of them. Will not lie, that plot kind of held a lot of potential and I will give props to the author for actually putting something together like that. But what makes a successful plot is how it's executed, and somehow on some levels I did feel like it faltered when it wasn't supposed to. I found a lot of unnecessary details which could have been skipped and some details which needed to be stressed on were just skimmed over.

OVERALL, AN OKAY READ, not sure how I feel about it but okay.
