Review: Icebreaker

Sometimes, I'm simply tired of life. Man, why is living on earth so damn expensive like I'm not even having a good time bro. Wish I was rich or something, maybe that would be better, loads of money, loads of food, nothing to worry about. Just chill with the money, and if you're  a millionaire, BINGO.

Seventeen-year-old Mickey James III is a college freshman, a brother to five sisters, and a hockey legacy. With a father and a grandfather who have gone down in NHL history, Mickey is almost guaranteed the league's top draft spot.

The only person standing in his way is Jaysen Caulfield, a contender for the #1 spot and Mickey's infuriating (and infuriatingly attractive) teammate. When rivalry turns to something more, Mickey will have to decide what he really wants, and what he's willing to risk for it.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.7/5, LOVED THE STORY, BUT NEEDED MORE PLOT.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE  BOOK'S:

1. Writing Quality: First person narration, one of my absolute favourites. It does seem like a fusion between the narration in "And They Lived..." and "Before We Disappear". It doesn't seem too dramatic, but it kind of seems dramatic at the same time. Wait that makes absolutely no sense. But when has this human who's writing this review ever made sense? Anyways, yeah, first person narration, telling exactly what's going on inside Mickey's mind and how absolutely he is whipped by Cauler and how he is so in denial its adorable.

2. Character Development: DELILAH, DELILAH, I love Delilah so damn much. Its sad that I don't get to see much of her in the book but I just love Delilah's character so damn much. She's raging, supportive and she doesn't take shit from anyone even if it includes her own brother who is also her best friend in the whole wide world.

Now coming to Mickey. He is an ass. Like I know he has depression, but I am not judging him on the basis of that. He just is an ass. He's an ass with everyone else, and moreover he's an ass on himself. Manz is too hard on himself. He's putting himself on impossible standards and is completely beating himself up over not being able to fulfill those standards. Like ma brother, you need to chill the fuck down, and take a break. And his depression makes it worse on him. I just want to sit down and tell him he's gonna be fine, even though things don't seem like it. And it's not his fault that he isn't able to fulfill his own standards. I'm kind of glad his parents were supportive of him though. It's hard to find novels where parents are wholly supportive of their kids.

Cauler and Mickey: Gasoline and open flame. Immediate combustion. Bro the sexual tension between them is so awesome like ugh, even their teammates are basically screaming "just fuck already". Like seriously, the tension between the two of them was eating me alive.

3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 7/10.

4. Intellectual Depth: Mental health. That's the point I guess. It's perfectly clear that our boy Mickey suffers from depression. Like the very bad type where you don't want to move around and do shit, but you still gotta move around and do shit. And he kind of feels like that he isn't allowed to feel depressed because he's been unable to interact with people. And I think this could be because of his parents. Because leaving a ten year old child like that to live with his best friend is not that acceptable. Not in my eyes because it could scar the child for life. And it did scar Mickey because clearly he isn't able to bond even though he doesn't blame that for that. But its visible in some places innit.

5. Plot: The plot felt a bit of flimsy to me. Like it started off pretty well, but somewhere it felt like the plot fell really flat. It would have been fine if the book was more off character driven but it wasn't like that either. It was more of plot driven, but there was nothing about an actual plot. It was just two or three subplots coming together being held by a string called romance. And it's sad because the storyline's good, the characters are awesome, but there's no plot. WHERE IS THE PLOT!?

OVERALL, AN OKAY READ I GUESS, Barbie and Dorian were pretty cute though.
