Review: Second Star To The Left

Y'all why is life so difficult. Like why you gotta graduate to earn money so that you can pay of those thrice damned student loans? Like bro, just make reading an Olympic sport y'all. I would be winning a hell lot of gold medals from my country. Like a lot. And I'd become rich too, just by reading.

Tinker Bell, banished from her homeland for doing the unthinkable, selling the hottest drug in Neverland—pixie dust—wants absolution.

Determined to find a way home, Tink doesn’t hesitate to follow the one lead she has, even if that means seducing a filthy pirate to steal precious gems out from under his…hook.

Captain Hook believes he’s found a real treasure in Tink. That is, until he recovers from her pixie dust laced kiss with a curse that turns the seas against him. With his ship and reputation at the mercy of raging storms, he tracks down the little minx and demands she remove the curse. Too bad she can’t.

However, the mermaid queen has a solution to both of their problems, if Tink and Hook will work together to retrieve a magical item for her.

As they venture to the mysterious Shrouded Isles to find the priceless treasure, their shared nemesis closes in. However, his wrath is nothing compared to the realization that achieving their goal may mean losing something they never expected to find—each other.

WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE  BOOK'S:

1. Writing Quality: The writing quality is surely interesting, but not enough to keep me piqued. For a person with ADHD, I often find myself getting distracted from stuff like really often, more than I can count and definitely more than I'd like to admit. And since I get distracted pretty often, when I'm reading, the book has to be written in an extremely dynamic or "one of a kind" way that makes me keep reading without actually shifting to something else. And to be honest, it was really sad to see that this book didn't have that. Except for that first line though, the first line was a banger.

Nothing has attracted a crowd like free booze.

2. Character Development: Tink and Hook, Hook and Tink. To be honest, the love story between Tinker Bell and Hook is kind of still a bit awkward to me because I can still remember Tinker's words when Peter Pan chose Wendy over her.
"If you have to choose between me and her, choose her. Because if you really loved me, there wouldn't be another choice."
God that line is still stuck in my head after all these years. But it does seem nice that there is no other option for Hook. And he loves her wholeheartedly, so much that he is actually willing to give up his life just for her safety. And Tinker Bell, it was really nice to see her as an independent and conniving person rather than the blonde bimbo Disney made her out to be. My girl Tink deserves more love.

3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 7/10. I did finish it in a day.

4. Plot Twists: Predictable, highly predictable. Except for the fact that Blackbeard is Hook's father, that one came off quite as a shock. That was one of the plot twists that actually made sense. Other plot twists were really predictable or they didn't cause as much shock to me. That's sad to be honest.

5. Plot: I kind of really liked the plot though. It's kind of a Peter Pan retelling without actually being a Peter Pan retelling. It's just a retelling from the same universe. And it kind of felt relieving to not see Peter Pan in it because first, I hate Peter Pan, in the original as well as Disney version, and number two, Hook actually not being a villain is kind of interesting. I have a weird love for villains actually just being morally grey lol.  I really liked it when Blackbeard chapter was introduced though. I heard about Blackbeard back when I watched Levi Miller's version of "Pan". Hugh Jackman did the role really well though. He's a stunning actor by all means. The fact that the hook or wings are minimally mentioned during the sex though, sus. 👀👀👀👀

OVERALL, A VERY MEH READ, why do all Never Land retellings I read end up like that?
