Review: The Unhoneymooners
Let's be honest, it had been a good while since I actually finished a single book in an evening. I mean, no interruptions from visitors, not me having to do chores or me having to go anywhere. Because that is exhausting. Seriously, I'm low maintenance, just give me a laptop and internet, I'm good.
Olive thinks she has rotten luck. While her sister Ami goes on to win every show, every lottery, every sweepstakes that exist, Olive is now broke and is searching for a job. When a shellfish poisoning leaves all the people at Ami's wedding, including the bride and the groom heading for the toilets, a full paid Hawaii honeymoon is up for grabs. But the only problem is, Olive has to share the trip with her nemesis Ethan, who also happens to be the best man at the wedding. A full paid Hawaii trip with her nemesis, the murder plans will have to wait after all.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.5/5, HILARIOUS, AND PRETTY NICE.
WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: I always like Christina Lauren's writing because they're fun, witty and hilarious. Like no dumb characters, because seriously, we've had enough of those. I like a good sarcastic banter and this book went right up my alley because of that. On top of that, it's written in first POV, chef's kiss, even better. When it's written in the sarcastic MC's POV, books immediately get better, and the narration is so nicely done and its really funny. Man I missed a good humorous book.
2. Character Development: The character development is really well done when it comes to the case of Olive, but about Ethan, I can't say much. Probably because he was acting like a dumb dick, which I didn't like at all. From a sibling viewpoint, I can understand though that it is hard to believe that your sibling can do something wrong. Siblings never appear wrong in your eyes. But the way he did behave with Olive made me want to castrate him. He could spend the rest of his day like a eunuch. I will protect my babies from men who are idiots and can't treat their S/Os right. Olive on the other hand, is a whole other story. She learns, she lives, she grows all in the span of ten days and after, it's really remarkable. From the cynic, she turns into this incredible person that is actually so wholesome to watch. The growth is stunning, remarkable and really awesome.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 7/10, I finished it in one sitting, though there were times I had to put it down because Ethan Thomas was being a dick.
4. Plot Twists: The only plot twist was Dane actually seeing more than one people when he was exclusive with Ami, in other words he was actually cheating, but I think a lot of people saw that coming considering the arguments Ethan and Olive continued to have. Dane's a complete dirtbag, as much as I support polyamorous relationships or seeing multiple people at the same time, YOU DO NOT FUCK WITH ANYONE ELSE IF YOU'RE EXCLUSIVE. God, cheating is one of the most disgusting things ever.
5. Plot: Fake marriage? Check. Honeymoon? Check? Enemies to lovers? Check. Like Ami's list, the book checks off the perfect contemporary new adult tropes, and seriously, we do need more of the fake marriage tropes in fiction. Though I do not read much of new adult, to be honest, actually haven't gotten around reading it, because SCHOOL and money. Ya boy broke, you see. But all in all, I love how the plot plays out because it's utterly hilarious to see Ethan and Ami try to not kill each other while have this immense sexual tension that is so thick you'd slice it with a cake knife.
