Review: What If It's Us
Let's be clear about one thing. To be honest, I am running out of shit to say here. Been tryna entertain you guys so you don't get bored while reading my reviews, but honestly, I am actually running out of stuff to say here. Maybe because nothing interesting has happened in my life yet. Maybe I should start some drama to make things spicy. Hey God, where's my bookstore romance or fake date trope?
It took me five minutes to find this font again because I'd forgotten where I'd kept this font. Yes, I keep forgetting stuff. And it's kind of exhausting considering that this site doesn't even keep the fonts in alphabetical order or in terms of sizes. Like seriously, you're an AI made by a multimillion company, the least you can do is arrange my fonts in order when I am adding them. Your ass can do that smh.
Arthur believes in the universe. Ben doesn't. Arthur believes that universe has caused him to meet Ben, the cute guy with a break up box outside the post office. Ben believes that the universe has fucked him up because he's the one suffering even though his boyfriend was the one who cheated on him. When this meet cute at the post office could lead to something more, you never know what the universe has planned out for you. Even if you're the most organized person ever.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.5/5, THIS BOOK DID NOT MAKE ME FEEL THINGS I THOUGHT IT WOULD.
WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: The writing is quite well done. I mean, the story starts off really strong and I like the way Ben and Arthur's POVs are written. And to be honest I am quite glad to see that these POVs have a way that they differ from one another. There's this way of narration that you can actually understand. And that, my friend is a good thing because I am sick and tired of having to check the headers more often than once to see who's talking in other books. It's tiring man. Like, give the narration life. And that's what happened in this book. I kinda am happy.
2. Character Development: There is surprising character development on Arthur's part even though there is nothing told to us about his family. Personally, I think I would have wanted to know more about Arthur's family. Kind of like how he grows as a person and how he helps Ben grow as a person.
Ben's development on the other hand is disappointing. I wanted to learn more about his family too because I think it would have been more relevant to the story and telling us more about him because I feel like I don't know anything about him. Kind of glad how he cleared stuff up with Hudson, it is a good feeling.
Dylan, awesome man because I love him. Please, he's literally the best boy ever and I want to hug him. Please, he's the perfect definition of a best friend, want a best friend like him. He's a petty little shit and I love him for it.
“Now it’s a triple date,” Dylan says. “I have an idea.” “No you don’t,” I say. “Why yes I do.” “If it’s sexual, just don’t.” Dylan grins. “Maybe we should have a six-way—” “Dylan!” “—wedding,” Dylan finishes.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 6/10. It's actually good but it's not that unputdownable. It is, kind of. Sometimes you do wanna keep the book down because it keeps getting boring at some point. It is kind of disappointing because I was quite excited about reading this book and waited for the second book to come out so that I could simply enjoy the duology. But this book disappointed me.
4. Plot: The idea of a meet cute turning into a whole summer fling is a really interesting idea. The thought of the universe putting these two together for a reason is also really cute too. But I kind of don't like the story in the middle. It begins off as quite strong but then the curve just flattens like Oikawa's ass [RIP Oikawa's ass. Don't worry Oikawa, I'll still there to tap your ass even if it is flat. You're the love of my life after Tsukki and Omi]
Here's a pic just to show off how much I love Oikawa even though it has no relevance to the blog but it kind of makes the blog pretty. My pretty boy.
Anyways, my point is that despite the book having good ideas and a great writing style, the execution is not done that well in my opinion. I don't mean to be rude, but I kind of feel like that this book lacks the X factor that I found in "They Both Die At The End" or in "Simons vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda". It's just hard to find a reason for me to like the book because I simply cannot.
