Review: The Cousins
I must not tell lies. Though to be honest, there is literally nothing to lie about on this blog. This place is legit the truest I've ever been in my 17 and a half years of life. Wait, has it been half a year already? Lemme check. Yep, already crossed that half year. But seriously damn, I'm almost 18 already? That means my free trial of life is officially gonna expire. Maybe I'm gonna be like Bokuto. Image below for those who did not get the reference.
Jonah, Milly and Aubrey are cousins, but they do everything but the activity that would prove that they are cousins. But when their grandmother, who had disinherited their parents a long time asks these cousins to spend the summer at her house, one thing is clear, not going is not an option. But it doesn't seem like a proper vacation after their arrival as secrets unfold and as shocking truths come to light.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.9/5, LACKS PROPER DYNAMIC. LOVE THE CONTENT, BUT DYNAMICCCC, NO.
Also here is the Bokuto pic for reference.
WHAT DID I FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK'S:
1. Writing Quality: The writing quality so far is quite well done, even though I have begun to see a pattern in the books. Well, no biggie, it's not like I will write a whole goddamn essay on this point because bloody hell it's like 91% humid here right now and it's hard to think with that level of humidity. All I want right now is for winter to return. I'll freeze of hypothermia but at least I'll have the ability to think. I fear I might be kind of saying the same thing over and over again, but this is the same plot point that keeps on repeating over and over again. Hey god, where's my share of intelligence? I do not like the time gap narration that happens though. As much as I love the idea of telling a story that would be the reason for the mystery, it's still a no.
2. Character Development: Hey, this one's actually good. Compared to the other two books that I read, this book has significantly more character development and that is far better compared to the other two. Specifically because Jonah and Milly have this hugeass sexual tension that made me scream "FUCK ALREADY" 100 times. And Aubrey finally growing a friggin' spine was like a hallelujah moment for me.
3. Couldn't put it down- Ness: 8/10 please I cant explain anymore, tis midnight here.
4. Plot Twists: Pretty sure the author is OBSESSED with introducing a freaking plot twist within the last 4 chapters of the book like GAH FREAKING DAYUM. My mind can process only one twist at a time. And I've just recovered from one plot twist and then boom, plot twist number two, tis unfair you know.
5. Plot: DAMN BRUH. Why you gotta hurt me like that bro? You're not allooooooooooowed to do so. Like god-freaking-damn. Such an engaging plot, just take my credit card already [actually don't I'm broke af]. I mean, t's been a while since a plot has been able to draw me in so I love it. Like as a Goodreads review said, "Karen M McManus has written one one of the most scary things- family". They ain't wrong. Like seriously, family is one of the most dangerous things ever. And if you have a bigass fam then BINGO, you've learnt to survive the wild. So I did kind of find that inevitable. As much as the dynamic wasn't much but I really like the wild content.
