Review: The Kiss Quotient
So let's be clear about this. I wanted a short book because I was running out of patience due to ISC results. Like damn CISCE, why you gotta do me dirty like that? Because of you I got diarrhoea and I puked a minimum of seven times out of anxiety. ARE YOU GONNA PAY FOR MY HEALTH INSURANCE CISCE? Then drop bombs like this otherwise don't.
Following the story of economist Stella Lane The Kiss Quotient written by Helen Hoang, shows us Stella's struggles with romance. When it comes to math and economics, Stella's top notch performance is on show, but when it comes to romance, her body automatically seems to shut down. And it doesn't help that she has autism and Asperger's. So she hires the hotshot Michael Larsen to help her with the romance area, but what was supposed to be a strictly professional relationship may have taken the wrong boat.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.9/5, FUNNY READ.
PROS:
1. Plot: Fake dating turned real dating is my real trope. Professional relationship between two individuals who have a crush on one another which turns into a romantic relationship, mwah. When guy falls in love with the girl first. Chef's kiss.
2. Rep: It's mentioned that Stella is autistic. I'm not autistic myself, but I know someone who does and I love how accurate Stella's feelings are described because I understand how it feels to be autistic. And I understand how little one feels when people treat them differently just because they're autistic. It's sad and it's infuriating at the same time.
3. This book, I repeat, THIS BOOK, was my redemption book for erotica. You know, most of the erotica I'd read was like hunger, passion, animal instinct, hotness, too much heat, tongue while this one was like soft, gentle, consent, slow, passionate. And seriously Michael agreeing to go slow with Stella was top notch. Take notes boys, consent is sexy. Very sexy.
4. MUTUAL PINING. WE STAN MUTUAL PINING IN THIS HOUSEHOLD.
CONS:
1. It just didn't evoke in me the feelings I thought it would. I mean, usually when I'm reading a romance book, I quite expect it to evoke some feelings in me. Or maybe because I have HUGE expectations after Five Feet Apart and The Love Hypothesis. [both books have been reviewed if you wanna check it out]. Look at me shamelessly promoting my own blog mhmm.
2. Writing Style: it was quite difficult to get through it in the beginning. It felt like an information dump. But I love the plot.
