Review: Amari And The Night Brothers
So, I'm sort of glad I made my tbr list. Like it has made my life easier by helping me decide which book to read next. Though sometimes my mind does not want to read a book but I force it to and mind then loves it. Sometimes, I got to take over ADHD mind, and currently ADHD mind wants manga.
After her brother Quinton's disappearance, Amari Peters finds a suitcase from him only to find that she has been nominated to join a camp for children to harness and learn about their special abilities. Amari doesn't want to join, but she decides to do so just to find her brother. But when her super ability comes in the form of illegal magic, it's like Jefferson Academy all over again. People hate her, and want to kick her out, just because she's something that she can't help but be.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.2/5, the story wraps up quite well.
PROS:
1. Storyline: The story line was actually quite interesting. I mean, when I looked at the synopsis on Goodreads, it was quite vague and I couldn't figure out whether or not to read it. You know, sometimes a bad synopsis kills a good book. Has happened to me way too many times to admit now. But yeah, as I was saying the storyline is pretty well done and made the things quite interesting.
2. Narration Style: Smooth, easy flowing. I think I should omit this point because I've said the same thing a couple of times now in a few blogs or so. Well, more than a few blogs considering we're over 60 now. We'll be reaching 100 soon hopefully so stay tuned! Look at me speaking like we're in some radio show.
3. The plot twist at the end though.
4. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Em vibes: If anyone has watched the movies, you better know what I mean. It continuously reminded me of Ministry of Magic in that book and I personally loved it. Though kind of ironic considering that a place looking like the ministry of magic hates magic. Pfft.
5. Despite being a standalone, the ending wraps up quite well.
6. Girlboss Amari. PLEASE.
CONS:
Characterization: if there was any complaint that I had with the book was the characterization. They seemed, flat and one dimensional sort of? Except for Amari, but that's cause she's basically the main character. The story flops down if she's a flat character. But others, they were really kind of stereotypical which personally, I did not like. It's just not, okay.
