Review: When Stars Burn Out
Okay, so um, *pinches nose*, I don't know where I am going with this. I seriously don't. As I said I prefer to blog IMMEDIATELY after I've finished reading a book, but then. BUT THEN, man, I really didn't know how to feel about this book. And it wasn't certainly in a good way. So I fell asleep.
When Stars Burn Out by Carrie Aarons is the story of Demi Rosen and Paxton Shaw. Eight years ago, Paxton left Demi to fulfill his dreams of playing pro in a football team. Demi was left to deal with her broken heart while all alone. Now, when Paxton appears once again in Demi's life, via Demi's cancer charity Wish Upon A Star, a child linking them together, Paxton realizes that Demi is the one for him. Will Demi accept Paxton in her life or will Paxton experience the same heartbreak he put Demi through eight years ago?
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3/5, I don't know why I bothered.
PROS:
1. Premise: It was good, I won't lie, guy comes back to girl's life after eight years and I couldn't wait to see how she could girlboss him.
2. Dialogue: Really beautiful if I may say so. Some of the dialogue was really moving and gut wrenching and it was one of those few moments when I was liking the book.
CONS:
I don't know where to begin with this.
1. Depth: Its as shallow as the dead sea. I mean, there is little to no depth in the story. The events just keep flowing and happening with no depth or hidden meaning whatsoever to them. I didn't feel like I was reading, I felt like I was skimming through everything even though I wasn't. I swear.
2. Character Development: I mean, what fucking development? What freaking development? Did you see any development? Because if you did please tell me where it was because I didn't see it anywhere. Like, I was so mad at both Demi and Paxton. Like Paxton, mate, you can't just ghost a girl who wanted to give you a chance and appear 8 years later and ask her to marry you. And Demi, Demi dearest, you infuriate me to another level. Like if a man treated me like a freaking booty call and then hits me up a fucking decade later saying he wants to make things right, the only thing he's getting is the fucking invitation to my wedding with my husband. It's just too, weird.
3.Wanted to Put it down: Man, there's nothing I wanted more than to put it down.
4. Plot: There was no plot. Like the story is plot driven, I think everyone could make that one out but seriously, where. was. the. plot? I mean, I didn't see it, did you? Please tell me if you found it. Because if it was fantasy I would have gone with the absurd plot because nothing in fantasy follows the laws of physics, but contemporary? Bro what the actual fuck.
