Review: Tokyo Ever After
You know what? I kinda feel like this blog is becoming a bit monotonous. I mean, same ol' format, and to be honest, monotony is not really my style. So if you guys have any idea as to how I can spice up this blog for my small but dear community of readers, it would be of great help.

Since I love you guys, I am gonna be really honest, the moment I read the synopsis of this book, my mind actually went "Oh, like Princess Diaries" and to be honest, it is kinda like Princess Diaries in a way. But I am not disappointed. I really am not, royal stories don't amuse me, but this one actually does.
Tokyo Ever After written by Emiko Jean is the story of overnight royalty. Izumi "Izzy" Tanaka suddenly discovers that she is the daughter of the Crown Prince of Japan and apparently she is now a princess. Thrown into royalty overnight, Izumi has to deal with it all, learning a new language, culture and responsibilities, all while dealing with an extremely hot bodyguard and cousins who stop at nothing to humiliate you. Is Izumi going to be able to conquer it all or is she going to be crushed under the pressure of sudden royalty?
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.2/5, imagine both the "Princess Diaries" movies into one movie but Japanese and 1000 times better.
PROS:
1. Setting and plot: Okay, let's start with the plot. I ADORE THE OVERNIGHT ROYALTY trope. I mean, man I seriously dream that I am gonna get an email like "Miss Black, it has been found that you are the sole heir of so-and-so empire". I mean, how cool would be that? And forbidden romance with a hot bodyguard? I'd like to fall in love with a hottie I know is gonna protect me because lemme tell you, THAT, is fucking sexy. If my S/O is hot and can protect me, you bet my ass I am in love. And seriously, because of my addiction in anime, I love the Japanese culture, gave me more material to explore for my traditions portfolio. And please, just, it was amazing.
2. Characters: Can I just say adorable? Because all of them are adorable as fuck. Except for those I actually didn't like, otherwise all of them were so adorable. And seriously the friendship between the girls of AGG is something that reminds me of the friendship in Veere Di Wedding, something that stays together, a group that brings each other up when the other is down no matter what, no judgement. And that is what I really want. And Mariko, please, she is the best lady-in-waiting one could ask for. And she's such a nice friend. And best of all Izumi's mother. She's such a supportive mother, we stan supportive mothers in this household. Aiko is the hot bodyguard who is vulnerable only to Izumi is so freaking adorable and oh their stargazing scene like fuck. And last but not the least, Izumi. She is so adorable and relatable and speaks in memes. I stan a person who speaks memes.
3. Reina: Need I speak more?
4. I love how the empress didn't mind the fact that Izumi was born out of wedlock and actually supports in the household. We stan grandmothers in the household. STAN.
CONS:
1. Princess Diaries Vibes: As I said before, they gave me IMMENSE "Princess Diaries" vibes. No hate on the movie tho, Dame Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway both were stunning in that movie and I adore them so damn much. But yeah, there was a part of me that kept comparing the book to that movie, so there were portions that made me feel like I couldn't enjoy the book fully. Otherwise, it was a really enjoyable read.
MOST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:
Noora. She's the best friend I need. Like seriously, all the girls of AGG are great but Noora is on another level. She actually brings out the gay in me, so awesome is she (KEEP THE RHYMING JOKES OUT OF HERE). But seriously, she doesn't take shit from anyone and she actually cares for Izumi like good bestfriends do, including taking her out of bed after being holed up in the room for a week. And seriously, calling Izumi's dad "Asian George Clooney" was peak comedy moment. That girl speaks in memes and I enjoy it to the fullest.
Honourable mention: Mariko, she's adorable. And Reina, she girlboss.
LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:
The twins, hands down. Noriko and Akiko. I contemplated Yoshi for a while, but he did seem quite nice at the beginning so he is spared from the first position. Well, to be frank, three people taking the first place for least favourite is not really my style. I gotta keep it spicy you know. (Dirty jokes stay out of this place and only inside your mind) So yeah, I was kinda infuriated as to how stuck up and snobbish Noriko and Akiko were. They kinda reminded me of the Bingley sisters, I hate the lot of them. Like who does that to your own fam? Jeez, if you want some spice, go read a steamy romance novel or something.
Honourable (not) mention: Yoshi, he's a dirty prick who deserves to be fed to Cereberus.
