Review: This Lie Will Kill You

So uhm, getting down to address this book, whew. Well, to be honest, usually I review right after I finish reading a book, so that the information stays fresh as eff inside my mind. But I actually took a nap after it and it's been a couple hours since the book. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I don't know, eh?

This Lie Will Kill You, by Chelsea Pitcher revolves around five teens, who have been called into a murder mystery party which they have to solve and win a scholarship of $50k. The school year has been tough on them and all five of them need the money to be off to college. But what they don't know is that the five of them are going to be involved in a very twisted game, one that could date back as far as one year ago, when each of them played a very important part in the misfortune that happened.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.4/5, started off strong, ended off weak. Meh.

PROS:

1. The premise/ setting: A book doesn't make sense if it doesn't have a good premise. I'd dare to go as far as to say that this book had excellent premise. I mean, the tension in the air was so thick, I felt like I needed a pair of garden shears to cut it off, whew. It reminded me a lot of "ONE OF US US LYING" and not in a bad perspective, but in a good way. That book also involved a couple of teenagers who were involved into something and so does this book. What even brings me in more is that these guys are actually guilty of something, and what's a good mystery without some guilt tripping?

2. Characters: As much as the book sounded meh to me, the characters were really well written. Other than Brianna, who was literally the most blatantly obvious character of all of them, there was another dimension added to the characters other than the fact that they were guilty of something. Another layer added to the layers already mentioned in the book. This is what I'm aiming for in a book, you see. You can tell me a character is multi layered at any point of the book, that's basically the whole point of the book existing, but showing it is another poggers talent, which is something I often find myself searching. These kids have more to them than shown here but it's not like it's explicitly shown out there.

3. The little bonding moment Juniper and Ruby have is quite adorable.

CONS:

1. The resolution: it was basically the only thing that ruined the book for me. Just ruined it. I mean, the events were unfolding as it is and then boom, all of a sudden you find out who it is. I don't know about you, but as far as mysteries go, IT. JUST. DOESN'T. HAPPEN. IN. A. MYSTERY. NOVEL. It was going so well and then by the time the middle of the book passed, boom, flat line. Like literally, it's like a right angled triangle. You're making your way up the triangle through the slope and them BAM! sudden drop which has you plummeting to your death. And that, I would say was pretty frustrating. If a book that you're enjoying falls flat all of a sudden, it's kinda sad because you know the book had a lot of potential in it, and maybe it could have been on one of the top novels you ever read. So yeah, according to me, I felt like the events were unfolded really quickly so eh. It kinda cancels out a lot of the good points.

2. It felt like a "The File of Young Kindaichi" rip off, except that there was no Kindaichi. Loved that show though, it was awesome af.

OVERALL, A MEH READ, not sure if this is something that I want to recommend?
