Review: Sing Me Forgotten
Well, this is certainly a different read. I mean, I'd read The Phantom of The Opera, and I'd loved it. So I probably thought, "Hey, it's the genderbend version of the book instead, it's also from the phantom's perspective, it can't hurt you." But bruh, it did. Every damn historical fiction book breaks something in me. Someone get some glue.
Sing Me Forgotten, by Jessica S. Olson tells us the story of Isda "Izzy", who doesn't exist beyond the Channe opera house, or anyone else other than Cyril. But when Izzy happens to find Emeric, the new janitor of the Opera House singing, she can't help but be drawn towards him. She wants to reach out to him, but she knows every well what happens to people like her when they are exposed to the common people. It's a tough choice and it's like Izzy wants the choice that she should't take.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.7/5, THE ENDING BROKE ME.
PROS:
1. Premise: Okay, Phantom of the Opera, it just broke me. Like BROKE. And it was like 3-4 years ago when I read that novel when I was having my sexuality crisis. Back then I cried at every random stuff so I cried over it. And when I looked at this book and I'm like yeah, it can't hurt me, it's ink on paper. Bro, the most dangerous weapon is not pen, it's ink on paper. AGH
2. THE ENDING BROKE ME: Like damn. Izzy removing her memories from her loved one and undoing her magic. Holy fuck. That shit hurt.
3. Originality: So everyone knows, I'm gonna mention The Phantom of The Opera all the damn time. Take a shot every time you do so, high chance you'll end up with a hangover the next day. So yes, the plot, probably isn't original, but the retelling adds a really different perspective, especially from the "phantom's" perspective.
4. Corruption Arc: it wasn't really a corruption arc. but I really enjoyed it when she was being all powerful and villainous and all. I adore villains, because they'll destroy the world to save their loved ones. Just, mwah. I want a villain to love me like that. Evil and all, but especially romantic to me.
5. Awesome one liners: BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHH, I'm shook. Some of those one liners were so girlboss, like you know I will be using those lines for the next time I sass someone out. People have been pissing me off since the beginning of time. So I might use that as well.
CONS:
1. The beginning was really slow, I guess. You'll have to get through at least the first six chapters for anything interesting to be happening. But before that, it goes really slow, it kinda makes you wonder whether it's worth it. But it defo is.
