Review: The Poppy War

So, addressing the elephant in the room, my inability to blog daily. Very serious issue in my opinion. Just kidding, I actually have a life unlike what you folks think, even though I hate it. But eh, this is not a blog about my miserable life.

Set in Ancient China The Poppy War by  R. F. Kuang follows the story of Fang Runin, a war orphan living in Takin, a village in the southern province. When Runin's marriage is arranged with a man almost thrice as old as she is, she decides to take the Keju, an exam that will ensure her entrance to Sinegard, one of the finest military Academies once she passes. But when Runin arrives at Sinegard, things are not as they seem. With an impending war and a teacher who doesn't even bother to put clothes on half the time, will Runin be ready for what is to arrive?

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 5/5, OHMYGOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY FUCKING GOD.

PROS:

1. Setting: You know a book's good if it's set in China you know. Or maybe I haven't come  across a book with a Chinese setting that has disappointed me. I hope not to come across such a book in the future because I will fling my laptop against the wall, I do not hesitate mind you.

2. Plot: DAMN BRUH. Why you gotta hurt me like that bro? You're not allooooooooooowed to do so. Like god-freaking-damn. Such an engaging plot, just take my credit card already [actually don't I'm broke af]. I mean, t's been a while since a plot has been able to draw me in so I love it.

3. Characters: Please, just, I'm so gay for ALL of them. Leave no one out. I mean, Nehza, Venka, Kitay, heck even Raban. And then Jiang obviously. Bruh please, they're so good. They're broken beyond repair and yet they're lethal fighting machines? Puh leez, why don't cha kill me?

4. ATLAN'S DEATH BRUH. AS MUCH AS I HATE CHARACTER DEATHS AND I AM NOW EMOTIONALLY SCARRED.

5. FREAKING EVERYTHING.

CONS:

None. Absolutely none-the-fucking-lutely whatsoever. Like deyum.

MOST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

Altan.

HAH, SIKE!

BITCH YOU THOUGHT.

Jiang. It's so goddamn obvious. Anyone who irritates Jun is my favourite person. And he actually is fun to be around. Man I wish to have a teacher like Jiang that could actually get high with me. That would be a fun student teacher bonding moment, getting high together. Anyways, as I was saying, Jiang is literally THE most amusing character I've seen in a while, though he will always fall second to Finian because Finian is awesome. And the fact that he's so powerful increases his hotness factor by 1000x.

LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

Jun, hands down. Like what the fuck is his problem with folks from the southern province and dark skinned people? Bitch you let the real culprit off on a suspension and then you proceeded to give the victim a suspension? Hol' me back, HOLD ME BACK before I go Sangwoo on his ass. I want to know which bitch put a stick in his ass so he's going around putting sticks in everyone's ass. Tell me, I wanna know.

OVERALL, A KICKASS BOOK, Can't wait to return to the sequels, but gotta wait cuz 50 books in tbr right now.
