Review: Meet Cute Diary
I'm simply at this point in my life where I see a queer story with a cute cover, I read the book. I mean, the gays deserve a happy story and I abso-freaking-lutely love a story where gays self explore themselves.
Meet Cute Diary by Emery Lee is the story of Noah Ramirez, who runs a blog of the same name, which shares the love stories of other fellow folks of the transgender community. Except that no one shares these stories. They're all made up by Noah fulfilling all his romantic fantasies. But when a troll tries to expose Noah, and the hottie at the library takes a fancy to him, maybe fake dating him to save his blog might not be such a bad idea.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.8/5, a good detox.
PROS:
1. Plot: Awesome. Like average teen gay trying to spend one summer which he can say "I did some pretty wild things last summer". If I am going to be honest, I'm kind of jealous of Noah in that perspective because he's getting to spend that "Hot Gay Summer"/ "Hot Wild Summer" because despite having done some pretty wild stuff in my life, I want a summer I can remember. Or maybe not cuz all I wanna do in summer is die of heat.
2. Trans rep: This book was the top of the list when I was searching for books with Trans rep and to be honest, I am not disappointed. It's really hard finding books with trans rep and it took me around 1GB of mobile data [shit's expensive af] to be able to find a book with decent rep. But safe to say the rep was more than decent. I enjoyed it a LOT.
3. NB Rep: Even though it's not much, Devin means a lot. I mean Devin's NB and e makes it easier for all of us NB folks out there. E provides little to the rep but e also uses neopronouns and changes pronouns quite often. That is something I enjoyed cuz I change pronouns a lot.
4. USE OF NEOPRONOUNS.
5. BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA REFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm on my knees for BnHA.
CONS:
1. Characters: They're kinda flat. And Noah sort of seemed like an ass to me. And that kinda kills the story by a huge factor because if the MC is an ass as well as one dimensional, it kinda cancels out all the good things in it.
MOST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:
Becca. I mean, y'all would think Devin because e is THE most adorable person I've seen in my life. Eir personality is awesome. But Becca takes the cake for me for being the most favourite character cuz she's a raging lesbian, for one. And she doesn't take shit from ANYONE. Not even her own best friend who's an ass to her. And while she's a hugeass fangirl, she's the supportive best friend we all want and need. And if I am being pretty honest, we all need a Becca to our Noah.
LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:
Drew. Toxic piece of ass. An ass I'd like to tap but nevertheless. He toxic, and papa ain't raising no toxicity loving bitch. No sir, nuh uh. He did seem nice and good at first but then became possessive, which is perhaps sexy at a point but then it becomes toxic af. And I am preeeeeeetty sure he was the one who tried to bring down Noah's blog after they broke up. He's a wussbag who takes out his anger via toxicity cuz he's angry of having a small dick.
