Review: House of Salt And Sorrows

Imma make it clear, that my tbr is now down by officially one book and I'll be destroying it again. Ciao

Ya know, when I looked at the title of this book my mind immediately went to pirate fantasy. And seriously there is lack of some good pirate fiction out there. Pirate fantasy lovers, where you at. Also this font is actually so pretty, why didn't I use this before? I'm a dumbass. Also don't hold me up on that, I'll kick your ass.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig tells us the story of the cursed family of Highmoor. Annaleigh lives in the sheltered life of highmoor, with her sisters, her father and her stepmother. But it seems like the family is under a curse. As the eldest daughters keep getting killed off one by one, each death even more gruesome than the last, Annaleigh keeps getting these ghostly visions and of mysterious balls the sisters keep sneaking off to. But the dance partners that these girls have, they might have a connection to these deaths.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4/5, It was an awkward start at first but it really picked up in the end.

PROS:

1. Dynamic between Cassius and Annaleigh though. A really cute and romantic dynamic. A hottie I meet in the marketplace and they turn out to be a demigod? Just awesome. Makes my day. The best day of my life.

2. Plot: Death, angst, agony. I love it and I live for it. Give me death, give me angst, give me agony, give me suffering, give me the most painful thing in the fiction world because I enjoy my heart being ripped out from all of it. Though none of that happened, I am in the phase where nothing hurt me now. Or because I haven't come across a book that's given me heart shattering agony yet. I'm waiting for it, Bookstagram.

3. The air of horror and mystery. It didn't quite send chills down my spine but it was scary nonetheless. The concept of the dead ones floating around is scary af. As someone who could see ghosts as a kid the scene of Annaleigh seeing the ghosts of her sisters was scary. As much as I don't believe in them, I hate seeing them.

CONS:

1. Pacing: the pacing was really awkward and slow in the beginning. And the events were happening really slowly and took almost two thirds of the book before I came to the good part. Sadge.

2. I really didn't like the ending? I was hoping to see more dynamic.

3. Not enough description, yet again. You can't just leave me to my imagination when I see new characters because I really don't know how people from other places look. I have an idea but heck I don't even know where this story is located.

MOST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

Cassian I guess. He's like that mysterious gentleman whom you can't help but get obnoxious vibes from? He seemed like that. For quite a while in the book I thought Cassian was the one who murdered Annaleigh's sisters and Fisher and Annaleigh would get together. [DON'T look at me like that, I've read too many stories like that to come to the conclusion]. And also him being a demigod is really a nice twist to it. I'd like to date a demigod or be one. Hey universe, can we make that happen? ;)

LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

To be honest there wasn't really a character I didn't like. I even liked Morella, though I did think her name was Mozzarella at some point. Don't come at me like that, I can't remember names when I don't want to. Besides mozzarella would be interesting as a character. And now I want some pizza. Goddamit, where's pizza when you need it. Ykw? Imma order myself some pizza after I'm done writing this blog.
See, how much I love you guys, I'm sacrificing pizza for your entertainment.
