Review: Daughter of The Moon Goddess

As much as people say "Don't judge a book by it's cover.", it's all bullshit. I mean, this cover  is specifically designed to bring in readers and it's absolutely fine. Because this is a wonderful book that deserves such a wonderful cover. Kinda angry that Bookstagram doesn't hype this up though.

Written by Sue Lynn Tan, Daughter of The Moon Goddess is the story of Xingyin, the daughter of the moon goddess. Xingyin has only known a life of solitude, having lived on the moon her whole life and not knowing about the world around her, being hidden by her mother who has been put into imprisonment by the Celestial Empress. When Xingyin's powers flare up causing her identity to be exposed, she has no choice but to run away leaving her mother and everything that she knows, behind. Powerless, friendless, she is now stuck in the Celestial Kingdom that could mean death for her.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.4/5, it's a pretty beautiful story.

PROS:

1. Narration: Smooth and easy flowing. There were barely any moments where I felt like the story was dragging which is, in fact a good point in my eyes. By this time, I think everyone knows that if a book drags it gets yeeted to the deepest depths of tartarus, never to be seen again. Also the descriptions are so vivid, it's really beautiful to be able to enjoy all of it. To feel it.

2. Character Development: It was a really amazing development, I think. Especially Xingyin's. I mean, she went from a frail and shy girl to a warrior with the highest honour in the army. That's some character development. That is something I want to see in a character. Even when she's trapped in Wenzhi's kingdom, she's angry but then manages to get out of it too. And that's some serious hot girl girlboss shit.

3. Couldn't Put It Down: Seriously things got really interesting by the end of part two and part three. And I was really struggling to keep up because shit was about to go down and it was about to go down really well. And I couldn't really keep it down, well except for one instance where I had to go to sleep or my dad would break my laptop. That would mean no blogs for you guys, before you laugh at my condition, you bozos. Other than that it was pretty well done.

4. MY GIRLBOSS XINGYIN.

CONS:

1. Romantic Development: As much as I love the story, I couldn't help but feel like the romantic developments in the beginning of the book happened too quickly. I wanted to know more about their dynamic, what the characters did to know each other better and fall in love with one another. As much as I hate being a sap, I want to see that.

2. Pacing: A bit too slow for my taste, that's all.

MOST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

As much as I hate Wenzhi for betraying Xingyin in part three, Wenzhi is a really good character who helped her through and through. And he's really cute and vulnerable for her which really makes me want a man for myself too. Like god, how could a man be so romantic for another woman? I sure as hell don't see any one making such romantic gestures towards me. You know if you're not, you're actually missing out on a huge deity. Anyways, this blog isn't about how fabulous I am. Yeah, Wenzhi doing the little things for Xingyin and healing her broken heart was like the cutest thing ever.

Until he decided to betray her but I still love him.

LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER:

Minister Wu. I don't think he made much of an appearance in the story but whenever he did, I wanted to be like "you, you there, you don't get to breathe. You don't get to live here. You don't deserve to live." Manz is filled with so much venom that the stonefish be quaking, you know. Like dude, give Xingyin a freaking break, she saved everyone's asses on at least four different occasions and when she's asking something NOT for herself but her mother, you're out there, getting your powder coated ass saying she's deceiving us? Like dude, I could do worse things to you if I wasn't such a good person.
