Review: Descendant of The Crane
I fell into a slump right before reading this book, you know. I thought I'd actually leave this one for December. But then again, ADHD and the impulsive urge to emotionally traumatize myself forever. And yes, I ended up emotionally traumatizing myself forever.
Descendant of The Crane by Joan He is the story of Princess Hesina of Yan, who has suddenly come into power as the queen after her father mysteriously dies. Set in an ancient Chinese setting, the book travels through the various struggles Hesina goes through during the investigation of her father's death while having Akira, a convict as her representative.
QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 4.7/5, Bruh why this book gotta harm me like that.
PROS:
1. Engaging plot: The plot, right from the beginning is amazing. I'm a person with a preference for first person narration when I'm reading. This was quite a breathtaking breakaway if I was to say so. And if I am gonna be frank, it was quite a nice break from the usual setting in New York city.
2. Plot twists: THEY JUST KEPT GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. Like bro, why you gotta do me like that. I was barely recovering from one then BOOM! Another plot twist. Like man, just. Let. Me. Breathe.
3. Suspense: edge of the seat suspense. I mean I loved it. Just wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
4. Emotions: This was something that ALMOST reduced me to tears. Only ONE book has been able to do so and this book came pretty close. Like fingers almost pinching but separated by Gojo's void close. Fellow Gojo lovers where you at ey. I will kid you not I had to blink multiple times just to not give in to crying.
5. CAIYAN'S BETRAYAL SLAPS.
CONS:
1. Fight scenes: they were meh. Like I thought there could be something that could be brought out of them, but I don't think they were to their full potential. I love me a good fighting scene but this book just wasn't it. I think it was very minor though, there weren't many fight scenes. But I think they could have been better.
