Review: Dark Visions

If I am gonna be honest, judging by the cover of this book, I really wouldn't pick it if the synopsis didn't interest me. But then again, the read was fine.

Dark Visions by L.J. Smith is a trilogy following Kaitlyn, a psychic, who has always been left out of everything ever since she was a kid due to her "witch" abilities. However, things seemingly take a turn for the better when she is invited to Zetes Institute for a psychic research in exchange for money that could change her life forever. But as her psychic visions increase and her mind is linked with four other individuals in the same experiment, Kaitlyn can't help but think that something might be wrong after all.

QUICK THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: 3.5/5.

PROS:

1. The beginning was promising : it was one of those few reads that actually made me think You know what? This book might not be as bad as the covers make it seem.

2. The psychic powers were really cool in itself. I mean, I'd sell my soul to get hands on some of them.

3. Character development: this was something I was really impressed with. And I don't mean Kaitlyn, but Gabriel. I think Gabriel can be seen as that morally grey character who everyone thinks until he does the ONE THING that would make him the hero in the eyes of everyone. It was a really Severus Snape move but I actually liked it.

CONS:

1. The random use of the word love. I think this is something that I really, REALLY disliked. Because love is such a strong emotion and Kaitlyn is like only 17 and seeing Rob after a few weeks and thinking to be in love with him is just, I don't know it sits really awkward with me. And then, there's Kaitlyn and Gabriel, I don't understand. How did they bond? HOW IN THE EFFING GRACES did they bond? I mean, if I was attracted to someone who despised me, heavens knows what I would do.

2. Plausible existence of a love triangle. Now this is one of the tropes I hate so damn much I want to fling the book across the wall and never give it a second thought. That's how much I hate the trope.

3. It was just plain boring in the second volume. Just plain narration and then BOOM! Five pages of fight scene where there isn't even any real fight. MARK ME BORED.

Overall, a boring read, like fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine and not in the good way.
